What is Nissan ProPILOT Assist?
Nissan’s ProPILOT Assist technology is Nissan’s first step towards creating a fully autonomous vehicle. Consequently, drivers receive a more user-friendly experience with ProPILOT Assist. It seems like this is only the first step for Nissan as they move toward developing vehicles that can drive themselves. Contact the Robbins Nissan team to learn more about ProPILOT Assist today!
How Does Nissan ProPILOT Assist Work?
The ProPILOT Assist is incredibly innovative. The system utilizes a camera, radar, and sensors to operate. As a result, these features help the driver remain in the center of their lane and maintain speed. Additionally, the system needs to be activated by the driver and the driver must keep their hands on the wheel for the system to remain active. Therefore, this feature ensures that the driver remains engaged with the driving experience.
ProPILOT Assist is activated with the press of a button and fully engaged when Intelligent Cruise Control is set to the desired speed. ProPILOT Assist will then detect lane markers on both sides of the vehicle and engage the steering assistance feature. When the entire system is fully engaged, ProPILOT Assist will maintain speed, slow down to a safe distance from other vehicles, and come to a complete spot if necessary. The Nissan ProPilot Assist is only the first step in Nissan’s mission to develop a self-driving automobile.

Where Does Nissan Go from Here?
Currently, ProPILOT Assist only provides assisted steering, braking, and acceleration in single-lane highway driving. Consequently, Nissan hopes to offer ProPILOT Assist for multi-lane highway driving in the next two years. In four years, Nissan wants ProPILOT Assist to be fully operational during city driving. The goal for Nissan is to develop a fully autonomous vehicle. They believe they can eventually drastically decrease fatalities and emissions with this technology. Nissan is clearly leading the way in innovation. You can find some great examples of innovation by checking out the Robbins Nissan inventory today!
