As any follower of the Nissan model lineup can certainly tell you, the highlight of the 2016 class is the addition of the all-new Titan XD to the family. Our redesigned full-size pickup has truly between the talk of the entire segment, with competitors such as the Ford F-150 and Chey Silerado certainly taking notice. Yet, since the Titan XD has been introduced with the option of either a turbo diesel or a gas-powered powertrain, the real competition for many Titan XD buyers would seem to be with itself.

We’ll start with the first of the two to appear on the market, the Cummins-powered 2016 Nissan Titan XD Turbo Diesel. The 5.0L V8 Turbo Diesel configuration returns a robust 310 horsepower and class-leading 555 pound-feet of torque, which helps it to return an also-class-leading 12,300-pound towing capacity. While this terrific powertrain certainly turns the segment on its ear, it’s also good to know that it does feature a higher starting MSRP of $40,290. 2016 Nissan Titan XD Gas Engine Houston TX

While some might require the otherworldly power of the turbo diesel powertrain, some might still prefer the more contemporary performance of the gas-powered option. That’s why Nissan has now rolled out a 5.6L Endurance V8 as well, which offers 390 horsepower and 401 lb-ft of torque on its way to a 11,200-pound towing capacity. Of course, this isn’t a substantial decrease in power, but it does offer a performance profile that might be more in line with what buyers are used to, and at a price that is slightly more accommodating.
